Three Thoughtful Tips for Your Reception Dinner

Sit like royalty at the Head Table feeling confident your guests are having a fantastic time since you followed these three tips.

1. Create a seating chart

While it may seem counterintuitive, assigned seating is a great way to make guests feel comfortable at dinner. Nobody wants to relive the Junior High feeling of navigating where to sit in the cafeteria. Direct your guests to their pre-determined seat where you can match them with friends or other guests who have similar interests. This is also a great way to make sure your guests who traveled long distances can catch up with other people they would like to see in town… aren’t you thoughtful!

2. Take care in your centerpieces

Most brides put a lot of thought into the centerpieces which decorate guest tables during dinner on their wedding night. This is a great way to make sure your color scheme, theme or favorite flower get noticed and can be a wonderful way to add elegance to your décor. However, it is easy to make towering, beautiful centerpieces which end up being a distraction or worse, an annoyance to your guests. Strive to keep centerpieces low so as to not block guests’ views of each other while chatting over dinner. If you want more drama without getting in the way, experiment with candles and mirrors. If your heart is set on tall vases to help fill the room, stick with slender, translucent options to reduce obstruction.

3. Conversation Starters

A wonderful way to make sure your guests stay and party all night at your reception is to set the tone during their meal before the toasts and dancing. While your expert seating chart will get the right people next to each other, provide them with some conversation starters or activities at their tables. One way to add a personal touch is to have themed tables with pictures and mementos on display highlighting trips the two of you have taken together or hobbies you share. A disposable camera to pass around the table, a list of fun facts about your relationship or uncorked bottles of wine to pour themselves are all great ways to get the fun flowing at your tables while you dine next to your new husband.
