“The Kate Effect”

As millions of people watched the royal wedding, anxious brides-to-be were meticulously checking every detail of the entire day, to get ideas for their own fairytales. There were a few unique details that many brides paid attention to that are now trending in 2012 weddings. Here are a few facts (and tips) about having your own royal wedding.

The Dress

Alexander McQueen, need I say more? Everyone knows exactly what that dress looks like and within hours of the public viewing it, seamstresses were already making their own versions that have been making their way into brides hands this last year. The key-if you’ve got it, flaunt it…tastefully. Kate could not have been more ravishing in her gown, but she kept it elegant and tasteful by adding long lace sleeves and a draping v-neckline with an a-line skirt. Look for dresses that accent your figure and have that pop factor and you are sure to feel like a princess.

The Veil

According to Brides magazine, 52% of brides say that they are now more likely to wear a veil because Kate wore one in her wedding. Whether it’s a simple birdcage veil, or cathedral, some things to consider when wearing a veil is your dress, your style, and your venue(s). Some brides choose longer veils to cover up for the ceremony and take it off for the reception. Some brides opt for the more manageable shoulder- or elbow-length veils and wear them all day. Depending on your dress, the fabric of the veil can be different, lace, beaded, tulle, whichever you prefer!

Many brides automatically think they have to wear their hair up for their day because that’s what is “traditional.” Many brides are opting for the long and flowing hair to keep it more casual, and in some cases, more formal. When thinking about your hair, take into consideration the weather of the day—will it be windy, hot, humid, cold? And adjust your hair style accordingly. Don’t be afraid to have a few test-dos done before your day to make sure it’s perfect!

As you all know, Kate’s sister Pippa was a huge hit and her dress has since been worn (in other colors) by celebrities down the red carpet. Kate really took the opportunity to show off her sister’s rockin body and you can too with all your bridesmaids! Pick a dress that really flatters them, it will make them feel great about themselves, and have an even better time on your special day!

Many other details of the royal wedding are trending today, keep in mind, there are a few cost effective ways to make your fairytale happen. Taking a few ideas here and there will sure to bring your dream of a royal wedding to life.

Trend Alert: Wedding Accessories

Wedding Trends: Accessories

This year brides are looking for some signature accessory item that will have people saying…so unique! In the past, it has been colored shoes (something that I jumped on the bandwagon with, personally) and now it’s modern vintage hair pieces and jewelry. Which is great—it draws attention to the bride’s face! From birdcages to broaches, sapphires to pearls, it’s all very trendy this year. Here are a few tips for picking your wedding day accessories:

  1. Think about the theme of your wedding and how your accessories will fit your day. I had a bride who had an amazing necklace and put it on for the reception because her ceremony was more traditional and she thought it fit the party atmosphere of her reception.
  2. Pick something that photographs well. You will have those wedding pictures forever and if your fabulous necklace you picked out creates a distracting glare, photos aren’t going to be your favorite.
  3. Test out all of your accessories together.  Don’t go all out and get every accessory because people will be more distracted by all the bling than you on your wedding day! And if you find two things you love, but they clash, pick one you love and keep the other one for a fancy party!

There are many online guides on how to pick and wear a specific item but the key to finding your signature item is finding something you love. And just like your dress, you should wear it, it shouldn’t wear you.  Make sure it goes with your dress, hair and your wedding theme and you’re all set.

BONUS: It’s fun to break out the necklace you wore on your wedding day on your anniversary and special occasions!

Misconceptions Of A Marriage Proposal Planner by Michele Williamson

Happy Tuesday!! This week we are exploring the growing trend of Marriage Proposal Planners. Here at SEBC, we have been intrigued by this exciting aspect of starting the planning process before the ring is even on!

Misconceptions Of A Marriage Proposal Planner by Michele Williamson

I will admit it, I am a Marriage Proposal Planner and I am proud of it. I help people come up with customized proposal ideas and then I execute the idea for them to make sure it goes perfectly. I watch from a distance as women cry tears of joys and men stand proud knowing that they brought on that joy by creating a sentimental proposal. After the proposal I normally talk to the woman and even get invited to the weddings. And yet some people hate what I do.

You may wonder, why would someone hate on you for doing a job that brings people together? I am not hurting anyone; I’m only trying to provide a service that people are clearly looking for. Last month, an article came out about Marriage Proposal Planning in The New York Times which of course caused all kinds of spin-off talk. While I have plenty of clients every day that love my services, I just couldn’t get over all of the hate people seem to have for what I do. While I realize it isn’t for everyone, I believe some people just don’t understand it. Here are some of the misconceptions I have read in comment sections on all the blogs around the world — and my attempt to clear them up. These are actual comments from users.

· “If a man can’t come up with a proposal idea on his own, he is a loser.”

This one I just don’t understand and I think stems from an ignorance of the process of Proposal Planning. The client doesn’t just give us cash and say “Come up with a great proposal idea”. We interview the client and ask him a ton of questions about his girlfriend, how they met, and other special details about their relationship. The client spends a lot of time during this interview process answering questions most men probably couldn’t even remember. Next, we use the interview responses to put together a proposal and tell a story about the couple in a creative way. Last, we set up the proposal. If the concept involves stumbling upon a romantic setup, we sneak down to the beach and set it up while he is at dinner. The client is very involved in the entire process.

Similarly, it boggles me that people have problems with guys asking for advice. When a guy does try to come up with an idea on his own he will most certainly ask someone for advice regarding the proposal. He may ask his friends or his girlfriend’s friends and unfortunately, he may turn to the Internet to get some cheesy suggestions. Why would someone have a problem with him asking a professional?

· “I don’t want an expensive over-the-top proposal. Just something intimate and special.”

Some females hear about our services and I think they have the misconception that we only plan Flash Mobs or elaborate proposals. That isn’t true at all. We plan proposals in homes, beautiful private rooftops, private hotels, beach proposals, etc. We plan all types of proposals.

Men that want to propose in a city they don’t live in give us a ton of business. They might be flying in from London and they want a private, intimate proposal set up in New York City so they hire us to set it up.

· “I would rather be proposed to on a toilet then have my boyfriend use a Proposal Planner.”

Really? Well to each their own. However, I doubt that most women would rather be proposed to on a toilet than to find out their men went out of their way to enlist professionals to give them a lovely proposal.

· “What’s next? Divorce Planners?”

Those already exist. They are called lawyers.

· “This is a service for rich people.”

That is not true. Most of our clients are middle-class professionals that just want to invest a little money in making their girlfriends proposal special.

While hiring a Marriage Proposal Planner isn’t for everyone, and I am certainly not suggesting everyone in the world needs to hire one, it is an honest career that does help a lot of men and women feel very good about a special day.
